With the Startravel 80, you can point it at different galaxies, planets, nebulae and also get some incredible images of the Moon’s surface. Besides that, it is also very suitable for watching wildlife as well.

The Viewfinder

The telescope is fitted with a 6×30 viewfinder. Different lenses are also supplied, including a Barlow Lens (x2) and lenses with a magnification of x16, x32, x40, and x80. Also included in the package is a 90 degrees erecting eyepiece.

The Tripod

The tripod isn’t the most robust of affairs and is clearly not intended to carry a great deal of weight, but it is well-engineered and up to the task at hand. It also features the handy accessory tray to keep all your eyepieces and things safe and to hand.

The Mount

The AZ3 mount, which is supplied with this telescope, is the most suitable for novices because of its portability and ease of operation. It is perfect for smaller and lighter astronomical telescopes, like the Startravel 80 and its two slow-motion cables allow precise tracking of celestial objects.

The Lens

The 80mm diameter lens fitted to the Skywatcher Startravel 80, is enough for you to view the farthest reaches of the universe at a very affordable price.

Its short focal length makes this a so-called ‘rich field’ telescope, making stunning wide-angle observing possible. Ensuring that you won’t be disappointed.

The Eyepieces

This telescope comes with two high-quality 1.25-inch Plossl eyepieces (26mm/12.5mm focal length) And the eyepieces are manufactured in an attractive metal design.

Verdict

Overall the Skywatcher Startravel 80 is a great little telescope. It may not be as technically sound like some other telescopes which are around the same price, but it is better at viewing deep space objects than many and is great for giving a taste of what’s possible.

The positives are that it’s fairly cheap, it’s small enough to move indoors and outdoors easily and when all said and done, it does exactly what it says on the tin
