Are you looking for a telescope?

The Skywatcher Skyhawk 1145p is a Newtonian reflector telescope. This type of scope has always been a very popular choice for people starting up in astronomy because it gives you the most aperture for your money of any optical design out there.

It’s great if you want to see deep-sky objects like galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. You can also use this telescope to observe planets, comets, and other solar system objects not visible with the naked eye or binoculars.

If you’re just getting started in astronomy, this is an excellent first step! It will give you everything you need to get started on your journey into space exploration without breaking the bank.

And it comes with two eyepieces so that as your interest grows, so does the magnification power of your telescope!

Also includes the Astronomical Software Suite – with the Starry Night SE Plus 7 & Stellarium 5 software programs that provide information about what’s in the night sky when viewed from any location on Earth at any date and time.

Many of the telescopes in the beginners’ price range were fitted with cheap and nasty spherical mirrors, which didn’t give the user the best experience.

The guys at Skywatcher improved that experience when they brought out the Skyhawk 1145p. A reflecting telescope fitted with a parabolic mirror. This gave the user much clearer precise images at a much lower price, than you would expect for such a quality set up.

The Packaging

One thing which is never really mentioned when reviewing a new scope is the packaging. The first thing we’d say with the Skywatcher Skyhawk 1145p  is that the people at Skywatcher do not skimp on the packaging.

The telescope is very secure and each part is neatly boxed and packed with cardboard. The important optical parts have more than enough packaging and are very well protected. All you have to do is assemble the telescope and start viewing right away.

Once everything is out of the box and you’ve read the instructions, everything about the assembly is pretty straightforward and you will have the telescope assembled in no time.

Skywatcher Skyhawk 1145p

With this scope, as with all the telescopes we review, we can not emphasize enough that you read the manual thoroughly. And then when you start to use it, things that may have been confusing will click into place. And you can then enjoy the Skywatcher Skyhawk 1145p and use it to its full potential.

Best Starter Scope?

The scope and its mounting are excellent together. In fact, for the price I’d say the Skyhawk 1145p is one of the best starter scopes out there, allowing for lots of viewing, whether it’s the moon or a bit further afield. You may be pleasantly surprised by its capabilities even with the fairly standard eyepieces that come with this product.

SynScan™ AZ

The SynScan™ AZ hand control allows you to direct your telescope at a particular object, or even tour the night sky just at the touch of a button!! The user-friendly menu system allows automatic targeting of over 42,900+ objects. Even someone with no or little experience can master its variety of features in a few observing sessions.

Equatorial Mount

One thing we would say in this  Skywatcher Skyhawk 1145p review is that the scope is extremely easy to use and quite straightforward. The manual does go into length about how to set up the equatorial mount and once set up correctly the two controls work just slightly ‘clunky’ when trying to do fine movements but for this price, it would be unfair to be too picky.

EQ Controls

If you know what you’re looking for, then really you could just take the telescope outdoors, point the scope at the night sky and have a look, it really is that easy. Another nice touch is that the EQ controls make it really easy to keep the object in the field of view.

Ambient Temperature Cool-down

One tip and this goes for all telescopes, is to leave it outside for at least 30 minutes before viewing your planned viewing session and allow the scope to ‘cool down’ to the ambient temperature.

It is amazing the difference it makes when you’ve got a cool scope, it’ll improve your clarity in the images massively and really allow you to bring those objects into focus.

The Tripod

The tripod is light but still provides a good level of stability. You can adjust and extend the legs to choose a comfortable viewing height for standing or seated observations. The built-in spirit level is also very useful. It also has a quick-release leg spreader, which doubles as a handy accessory tray.

The 10mm and 25mm eyepieces supplied in the box are more than adequate. They’re pretty standard really but will allow you to get some pretty remarkable views of Saturn, the Moon and other planets.

Overall it’s a very effective starter scope and for the money, it’s great value for money. Also, this is a great telescope and it can teach you a lot about the night sky. If you’re just starting in the hobby and are unsure about diving in at the deep end then it comes with our full recommendation.
