Assemble

And now the assemble part. This is a straightforward and relatively simple process and should take you around 15 to 20 minutes. The instructions are concise and easy to follow.

The Aperture

The Orion 9024 AstroView 90mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope, has a 90mm aperture and a focal length of 910mm. With this set up you can get amazing images of the planets and the surface of the moon.

The AstroView gives you clear sharp views of the lunar surface, its craters, and its mountainous regions in great detail. In fact, you will be very impressed with the deep sky phenomena that can be seen with this scope.

The Viewfinder

Attached to the optical tube of the AstroView, is the viewfinder, which makes it a lot easier to locate what you want to see. And whereas with some telescopes, the viewfinder sometimes lets it down, the guys at Orion have given this scope a viewfinder that does the job really well.

Equatorial Mount

The mount that is supplied with this telescope, is the Orion EQ-2 equatorial mount. This mount will enable you to track and follow celestial objects as they move across the sky. It may need an occasional adjustment of the slow-motion cable to keep the target centered in the eyepiece, but don’t let this put you off, as it is pretty straightforward, once you’ve done it a few times.

The Tripod

The lightweight tripod which comes with this telescope has adjustable legs and also features an accessory tray, to keep all your bits on, within easy reach. Although I prefer a heavier steel-framed tripod, for better stability, this one does the job just fine.

Eye Pieces

Two separate eyepieces are supplied with the Orion 9024 AstroView 90mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope. The sizes of these are 25mm and 10mm.  With these eyepieces, you can increase the magnification level of the telescope. In fact, it provides an additional 36x magnification.  The use of an eyepiece can be difficult, especially for beginners; however, just bear in mind, that it further enhances the view of the Orion AstroView which has a 91x magnification level.

The Software

And last, be not least this telescope package comes with the Starry Night software ( as does the Celestron Nexstar ) . This amazingly powerful guide will teach you all about the constellations and plan your viewing sessions.

The excellent optics and the reasonable price are not the only reason why you should pick the Orion AstroView over similar telescopes on the market. It is also made really well and weighs about 27lbs which says a lot about its quality.  It is indeed a great choice for anyone who is looking for a telescope that will last for years to come.
